FIRST DEATH IN FAMILY.
Arnold Martens, Aged 75,
and Youngest of Family of Seven, Dies in Chili, Wis. Word has been received
here of the death of Arnold Martens at his home in Chili, Wis. Mr. Martens
will be remembered by the older residents, he having been in business here
many years ago. His death was not unexpected, as he had been ailing for the
past two years. The deceased was a brother of A. Martens and Albert Martens
of this city. Besides these, he leaves three other brothers, all well known
here, George Martens of Coleman, Math. Martens of Creston, Ia., and John Martens
of Milbank, S. D. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Math. Reynen of Green Bay.
Mr. Martens was born in Holland, and came here when a young man. He was a
resident of this city for a number of years and also of Askeaton and Appleton,
where he conducted a business. He was 75 years of age, and was the youngest
of the six brothers. His was the first death of the family of brothers and
sister. Adrian Martens and Miss Gertrude Martens of this city, and a number
of the Reynen family of Green Bay have gone to Chili to atten the funeral,
which will be held tomorrow. Mr. Martens also leaves a widow. He was married
twice, his first wife being a sister of William Hoks. |
