L.M. Martens of Lena Dies

LENA - Lawrence M. Martens, 66, of Lena, died unexpectedly Friday at home. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Martens had lived in Lena for the past 40 years and was employed by the Frigo Cheese Corporation. He was born July 29, 1910, in Pound and married the former Frances Kapla there on September 18, 1935.

Surviving with his widow are seven daughters, Mrs. Bruce Fischer of Sussex, Mrs. Ray Zellermayer of Linolnwood, IL, Mrs. John Huberty of Green Bay, Mrs. Glorianne Ness of Madison, Mrs. David Walker, Monterey, Calif., Mrs. Mickey Weldon, Baytown, Tex., and Miss Barbara Martens, Oshkosh.

Also Surviving are seven sons, Roger of of De Pere, Kenneth of North Fork, Idaho; Allan, Raintree, Mass., Michael, Monterey; Lawrence Jr., route 1, Lena; Mathew, San Francisco, Calif.; and Edward, at home; a brother Richard of Menomonee Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Leslie Peters, Green Bay, and Mrs. Francis Farrell, Milwaukee, 19 grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Soulek Funeral home in Lena on Sunday after 3 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Final rites will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, the Rev. Gerald Alferi officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pound.

Died as a result of 5-way by-pass after 6 days in recovery. Death certificate states coronary heart disease.

Frances (Franny Martens) LaChance
Frances LaChance, 73, a winter resident of Mesa, Arizona and summer resident of Oconto, died Friday, April 17, 1992 at Mesa Lutheran Hospital. The former Frances Mary Kapla was born November 13, 1918 in Pound, Wis. She was married to Laurence Martens in Pound and he preceded her in death in 1977. Frances then married Gordon Densing, Goodman. He also preceded her in death. She was married to Ralph (Frenchy)LaChance of Oconto. Franny resided in Lena for 42 years.

Surviving besides her husband, Ralph (Frenchy) are seven daughters; Nancy (Bruce) Fischer, Milwaukee; Kathy (Ray Zellermayer, Lincolnwood, IL; Mary Lynn (John) Huberty, Green Bay; Gloria (Shurkri) Kablan, Atlanta GA; Rosalie (David) Walker, Frankfurt, Germany; Susan (Mickey) Weldon, Canadian, Texas; Barbara (Rick) Savage, McHenry, IL; six sons, Roger (Pat) Martens, Green Bay; Ken (EvaJeanne) Martens, Salmon, ID; Allan Martens, Milwaukee; Mike Martens, Green Bay; Larry (Wanda) Martens, Oconto; Edward Martens, Milwaukee; 26 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Ted (Helen) Kapla, Pound.

She was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Martens, and two grand-children, Laurence Martens Jr. and his sister Tammie.

Cremation services were held in Arizona. Friends may call at Rhodes-Charpata Funeral Home, Lena, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 25. There will be a wake service Friday at 8 p.m. There will be no visitation Saturday Prior to the mass at the funeral home. A memorial funeral mass will be held Saturday noon at St. Charles Catholic Church, Lena. The Rev. Harold Beerntsen will be officiating. Burial in St. Leo Catholic Cemetery, Pound.
