POUND RESIDENT IS DEAD AT 91

Pound - Francis Ray Martens, 91, a well-known resident of the Village of Pound for the last 65 years died unexpectedly Thursday at his home.

He was born April 11, 1887, at De Pere. He married the former Winifred Maloney on June 10, 1913 at the former St. Leo's Catholic Church in Pound.

Mr. Martens owned and operated a general store at Coleman and then at Pound until his retirement in 1959. He served on the village board for many years and also as treasurer for the Frigo Cheese Factory.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife; a son, Clare of Pound; two brothers, Harry of Coleman and Clement of Green Bay; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A son, Leo, died in 1974 and a grandson, William, died in 1966.Four sisters and four brothers also died previously.

Friends may call at the Rhodes-Charpata Funeral Home in Coleman from 4 to 9 p.m. today and until 10 a.m. Saturday.

A wake service will be held 8 tonight. Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. Thomas Mayefske will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

WINIFRED MARTENS
POUND - Services for Mrs. Winifred Martens, 88, Pound resident who died Saturday at Marinette General Hospital, were held today at St. Francis Catholic Church. The rev. Thomas Mayefske officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home of Coleman was in charge of arrangements.

The former Winifred Maloney was born here Jan. 20, 1893. She was married to Francis Ray Martens June 10, 1913 at St. Leo Catholic Church. The couple resided in Pound where he had operated a general store for many years.

Surviving are a son, Clare, of Pound; two sisters, Mrs. Lorretta Niquette of Bark River and Mrs. Marcella Schmidt of Kenosha, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Her husband died in December 1978. A son, Leo, and a grandson, William Martens, also died previously.
