CLARE MARTENS
POUND - Clare "Francis" Martens, 71, of Route 1, Pound, died
Friday afternoon at St. vincent Hospital in Green Bay after a short illness.
Martens was born here July 16, 1914, and was a lifelong local resident. He had
been employed Country Gardens Inc., the former Coast to Coast store and the
former Chadwick Manufacturing Co., all of Coleman. Martens later worked at Packerland
Woodworking in Peshtigo until retirement in 1979.
He was a member of the carpenters and joiners woodworking union for 30 years
and of the Royal Neighbors.
Martens married to the former Dorothy Harley Feb. 5, 1938 at the former St.
Leo Catholic church.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Jerry and Russell of Pound and Donald
of Crivitz; three daughters, Karen Curtis of Marinette, Joan Tackmier of Pound
and Dorothy Berth of Green Bay; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A son,
Billy, died previously.
Friends may call at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Coleman, Monday from 4 to
9 p.m. and Tuesday until 10:15 a.m. Services willb e held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday
at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church, coleman. The Rev. Martin Fox will
officiate. Burial will be in St. Leo Cemetery, Pound.
A wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The pallbearers will be Jerry Maloney, Bill Vanish, Art Woller, Dr. Ralph Pelkey,
Richard Kramer and Herb Melcher. |

DOROTHY J. MARTENS
Dorothy J. Martens, age 80, of 2010 County Q. Pound, died early Monday, June
15, 1998 At Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette. The daughter of the late Clayton
and Amanda (Brault) Harley was born December 29, 1917 at Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
She graduated from Coleman High School and was married to Clare Martens,
February 5, 1938 at the former St. Leo's Church Pound. Dorothy was employed
at the former Helen & Leo's Supper Club, Pound for 12 years and was a
cook at Coleman High School for 10 years. She served as treasurer for the
Village of Pound for 30 years, a former member of the Coleman-Pound Lioness
Club and a member of SS. Francis & Wenceslaus Church, Coleman.
Surviving are 5 children, Jerry (Barbara) of Pound, Karen (Leonard) Curtis
of Marinette, Russell (Karlene) of Pound, Joan (Dale) Tackmier of Pound and
Dorothy (Tom) Berth of Green Bay; 1 daughter-in-law, Donna Martens of Crivitz;
14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, James (Gertie) Harley
of Defiance, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clare; 2 sons
Billy and Donnie; 1 granddaughter, Marnie Martens; 3 sisters, Ruth, Elene
and Evelyn, and 2 brothers, Russell and Clayton Harley.
Friends may call at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Coleman from 4 to 9 p.m.,
Wednesday with a parish wake service at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. There will be
visitation at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until 10:15 a.m. Mass
of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at SS. Francis &
Wenceslaus Church, Coleman with Rev. John Hephner officiating. Interment will
be in St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery, Pound.
