Dear Kathy,
Yes indeed, that article was about my brother Tom. He was drafted into the
army during the Vietnam War. While in the army, he did a residency in orthopedics.
So he spent eight years in the military and belonged to the reserves after
he was released from active service. During Desert Storm he was drafted into
active duty again. This was very difficult for him because at that same time
his wife, Nita, was diagnosed with cancer. When released from service after
Desert Storm, he retired totally from the army with the rank of Colonel, I
believe. He even retired from his practice as an orthopedic surgeon in Corvallis
OR and moved to Portland OR where Nita died in 1993. As you know he later
married Marty Boettcher and they are enjoying their retirement years.
