Aberdeen --- The memorial service for Ruth Lamont, 89, of Aberdeen will be 1:30
p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2005, at First United Methodist Church, 502 S. Lincoln
St., with Pastor Carol Iwerks officiating. Ruth died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at
Angelhaus Regional Basic Care Center where she had been living since December
2004.
Spitzer Funeral Home, 320 6th Ave. SE, is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Martens was born on Feb. 21, 1916, to Glenn W. & Florence (Gold)
Martens in Pierre, S.D. She was raised and attended schools in Pierre until
going to the University of South Dakota where she was a member of Kappa Alpha
Theta Sorority.
Ruth graduated and went on to teach school in Oto, Iowa, for one year before
she married Robert Lamont on Aug. 24, 1938, in Pierre, S.D.
Ruth was a member of First United Methodist Church and has done work with
the School of Hope, charter member and past president of Chapter B PEO. She
was a past president of PTA, and was the seventh International Women's Year
Hall of Fame (IWY) woman from Brown County. She helped with Meals On Wheels
for many, many years. Ruth was active in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
She volunteered throughout her life always giving to others. She also found
time to be a member of American Association of University Women.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert Lamont, Sr.,
Aberdeen; one son, Robert & Bonnie Lamont, Jr., Aberdeen, S.D.; one daughter-in-law,
Mary Lamont, Aberdeen; three daughters, Betsy & Jason Groves, Rapid City,
S.D., Wendy & Steve Reinhardt, Little Falls, Minn., Molly & Darrel
Stahl, Huron, S.D.; 16 grandchildren, Lori & Scott Lange, Casey Lamont,
Carli Lamont, Jeff Lamont, Chris Lamont, Todd Lamont, Ethnie Groves, Davina
Groves, Brie Groves, Markie Marzolf, Lamont Marzolf, Kelsey Marzolf, Sam Reinhardt,
Daniel Stahl, Robert Stahl, Matthew Stahl; two great-grandchildren, Andrew
and Halie Lange.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Glenn Lamont, and one
sister, Katharine Norton.
