Fight the Power - Days Old
6 mos old.Well, it seems time for another Rand update. He's now 6 months old. He had his check-up last week and everything is great. He is now 14lbs 8 oz. (Sandy, you won that one) and is 27 inches long. He is still in the 25th percentile but I see that as a bonus. He's still light enough to carry around. Rand has been through many firsts since the last update. He's now eating rice cereal with 2 oz. of formula and loves it. He seems to like the cereal better with formula much to my chagrine. I'm still nursing him and he only has formula in his cereal. He started veggies last week. He loves his squash. I'm making his baby food, for which I received a "you're the only one who's ever done that" from day care. I'm sure they think I'm nuts but I've got the time. His doctor wants him to start with yellow veggies first and then move on. I'm having trouble figuring out what yellow veggies are so if anyone has the answer I'd appreciate it. He'll start sweet potatoes Saturday which I know isn't yellow but which he is allowed to eat at his age. I'll puree them and then freeze it in icecube trays. Seems to work really well. Rand is holding his head up very well. He now rolls over from back to stomach but seems to have forgotten how to roll back over. That's fine with me since that means he isn't mobile yet. We have found him a couple of times asleep on his stomach when we've gone in to check on him. He's trying to crawl but can only get onto his knees. He doesn't have any strength in his arms yet. He's struggling to learn how to sit up. He seems to do well for a minute or so but then slowly tips forward until he's pretty much on his stomach. He will stand in your lap now. He loves to do that. He also loves glasses and hair. I now have to remove my glasses when I am feeding him otherwise he's too distracted trying to reach for them. He's now sucking on his toes. I sure wish I was still that limber. (I'm sure Gene wishes it as well.) We have bought a highchair for Rand. It sits unused at this time. He doesn't like it because he is too small for it. We are feeding him in the swing which I think confuses him somethimes. He's not sure if he is going to be eating or swinging. Well, Rand is starting to get cranky. I'm attaching a picture which I think most of you have seen already. He's 5 months old in the picture. Love, Rand's mommy

What a mess this made. Thought you all would appreciate a picture of our chocolate covered boy. He is 14 months now and is doing very well. He has begun taking small steps, two or three at a time. He still isn't interested in doing any more than that right now. He has learned how to turn the knob for the oven. I'm frantically running to the baby store this afternoon to buy something to cover the knobs. (our previous try at that didn't work on our stove) He is trying to open the gate at the top of the stairs. He knows how it works but doesn't have the strength (yet) to press the spring. He is climbing on furniture (thanks Grandma C.!) and loves to walk behind his push car. He keeps us very busy. Well, I must be going. Rand no longer wants to watch me type. Love to you all. Jen, Gene, and baby Rand

Rand is Thomas the Tank Engine, Talen is Bob the Builder. 2005 Halloween

Rand is almost recovered. Rand was chasing Talen down the hallway and ran (at full speed) into the corner of the door jam. It happened two weeks ago and he still has a bit of a shiner. I of course was very sympathetic and said, "that's what happens when you don't watch where you are going". The doc says he is fine and nothing was fractured. He was pretty lucky that he didn't do any damage. He hit the door right at the corner of his right eye. Any closer and he might have damaged the eye.
