OBIT: Creston Daily Advertiser
Gazette, Tuesday, January 6, 1920
Death of Henry Martens Occurred Yesterday P.M.
Henry J. Martens, age 43, died at the family home, 301 South Elm street, yesterday
afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. Martens has experienced a sickness that extended
over a period of sixteen years and was a sufferer from that dreaded disease
tuberculosis and has been to California, Arizona and other places in order
that he might obtain relief. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining
of his lot but on the contrary he tried to be as bright and cheerful as it
was possible for him to be in the face of the odds against him. Six months
ago he began to fail and from that time until his death he never gained in
health again.
He was the next to the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Martens, both of whom
have passed on and has lived in this city all his life with the exception
of the visits to other climates in search of relief. His brother Theodore
was drowned in Manilla Bay during the Spanish American War and two brothers,
Frank and John are both residents of this city. He has two sisters also residents
of Creston, Katherine and Celia. The funeral will take place Thursday morning
at 9:30 o'clock at the St. Malachy's church and interment will be made in
Calvary cemetery. |
