Margaret "Marg" (Mrs. Greg) Martens, 74, 206 Park Ave., Oconto Falls,
died peacefully Monday, July 24, 2000 at her summer home in Eagle River.
She was born April 24, 1926 in Oconto Falls to William J. and Helen (Western)
Kadlec. She grew up in Oconto Falls where she attended school graduating
from high school with the class of 1944. Following graduation, she attended
nursing school in Cook County, Illinois.
On June 23, 1945 she married Gregory N. Martens in Midland Texas. The
couple have lived in Oconto Falls for most of their married life and have
also owned a cottage on Cranberry Lake near Eagle River for over 30 years
where Marg was an avid fisherman. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic
Church in Oconto Falls and was once active in the Youth Church organization.
She was also a lifetime member of the Oconto Falls American Legion Auxiliary.
Marg will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother..
Survivors are her husband, Greg Martens; one son, Kerry Martens, Appleton;
one daughter, Dr. JoAnn Martens and Drew Kottke, Waunakee; six grandchildren;
one brother, Jim (Mary) Kadlec, Oconto; one sister, "Billie" (George)
Rider, Oconto Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Linda, one brother,
William "Buster" Kadlec and three sisters, Kathleen Frank, Jean
Robinson and Bette Behling
There was no visitation. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with the urn present
was held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr.
Paul Schumacher officiating. Burial of the urn was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto
Falls. Jones Funeral Service served the Martens family.

Greg Martens, 92, Oconto
Falls, died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at a Madison area hospice
care facility. He was born March 13, 1923 in Coleman to Charles and Julia
(Rabichaud) Martens. Following graduation from high school and attending college
in Oshkosh, Greg entered the US Army Air Corps during WWII, now known as the
US Air Force and served as a bombardier with the 351st Bomb Group, stationed
in Polebrook, England while flying 35 missions over Germany.
On June 23, 1945 he married
the love of his life, Margaret "Marg" Kadlec in Midland, TX. They
moved back to Oconto Falls where Greg owned and operated the West Side Mart
until he retired in 1982. He also owned grocery stores in Crandon and Spencer.
Greg and Marg spent many years enjoying their cottage on Cranberry Lake near
Eagle River, where Greg became well-known as a great musky fisherman. He was
a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls and was a 3rd and
4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Greg also served on the founding board of directors
for River Island Golf Club in Oconto Falls, the Oconto Falls Water & Light
Commission and once served as president of the Oconto Falls Businessmen's
Association. He was also a member of the Oconto Falls American Legion Post
#302.
Survivors are his two
children, Kerry (Eileen) Martens, Appleton; Dr. JoAnn (Drew Kottke) Martens,
Waunakee; six grandchildren, Brandon and Kristin Martens; Aaron and Christopher
Kottke; Bridy and Kurt Bless; three great grandchildren; one brother, Jim
Martens, AZ; two sisters, Sally Kelly, TX; Betty (Brian) Smith, CA; one brother-in-law,
Jim (Mary) Kadlec, Oconto; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend,
Dottie Trudell, Oconto Falls.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, wife Marg in 2000, a daughter, Linda and one brother, Fr.
John Martens.
There will be no visitation.
Mass of Christian Burial with the urn present will be held 11am Saturday,
April 11, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls with the Rev.
Fr. Joel Sember officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn
Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
